Ingredients

For the chicken
  • 4 pieces pieces of chicken (legs or breasts)
For the coating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
For the wet mixture
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
For frying
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing the chicken pieces under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. This will be your seasoned coating.
  3. Pour the buttermilk into another bowl. Dip each piece of chicken into the buttermilk, letting any excess liquid drip off.
  4. Next, take the chicken and coat it well with the seasoned flour mixture. Make sure every part is covered.
Cooking
  1. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle.
  2. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for about 10-15 minutes on each side or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Once done, put the chicken on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb extra oil.

Notes

Fried chicken is best served hot. You can serve it with classic sides like mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or cornbread. Don’t forget to add some pickles or your favorite dipping sauce to make the meal even better!
