Ingredients
  

For the Croissant Dough
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup cane sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold) Ensure butter is cold to maintain layers.
  • 1 each egg (for egg wash)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together sugar, salt, and flour.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and knead until smooth.
  4. Roll the dough into a rectangle and place cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper; pound it into a flat sheet.
  5. Place the butter sheet on half of the dough and fold over the other half.
  6. Roll out and fold the dough several times to create layers.
  7. Cut the dough into triangles, and roll them up from the base to the tip.
  8. Place on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey. For extra flavor, consider filling with chocolate or almond paste. To store, keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to a month.
